We're Back!!! - 4/27/13

Pirate Cat Radio is long gone but I figured what the hey, recording a weekly podcast on my own can't be that hard, can it?  Actually, it's kind of tricky.  Very similar to taking one of those ski lifts where it gets to the top and it seems easy enough to just kind of slide out and head down the slope but things never quite go that smoothly and there's at least a second or two where you wonder if you might not properly exit this thing and will be stuck on the bench (or worse) but you manage to avoid this fate and get off the lift yet still, it doesn't feel right somehow.

That's pretty much like what recording my own podcast is like.  Nonetheless, I am going to try it anyway and will have a new show up here soon.  May God have mercy on our souls.  Which I don't mean to sound morbid or melodramatic, I just figure it couldn't hurt if He does, right?

Underrated Show - 1/04/10

These were many of my very favorite bands playing some of my very favorite jams and bands I would also consider vastly underrated in the grand scheme of things. Really, of course, ALL post-punk and new wave music is underrated. Far too often dismissed as style over substance, post-punk was incredibly innovative, diverse, and creative in a way music had not seen before nor has since. That said, there certainly were some bands that managed to persevere and while never completely break through to the mainstream in America, still attracted legions of fans who respect them (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, etc.). Then there were some that managed to earn the respect of snobby critics too (Devo, Elvis Costello, Joy Division, Talking Heads, etc.) These guys were left off of my underrated show but hopefully know I will always love them too. The bands I featured tonight were ones I felt should have either been recognized as being truly great or at least relegated to more than one-dimensional 80s nostalgia. I know there are those out there who do recognize this and it's been my life's pleasure to be a part of your club. Hopefully history will join us soon.

2009 Show - 12/28/09

All songs that came out in the year 2009 but don't hold that against them. Somehow, the heart of post-punk is still beating. New bands are keeping it alive and older bands are becoming rejuvenated and surely this can't last forever so re-catch the wave while you can.

Yes, an evening to celebrate a decade of great jams that have shaped my entire musical lifetime. My first ever show dedicated to one band and there was only one band I would consider for such a first show - The Cure. To find out why, give it a listen.

Rockin' Post-Punk Show - 11/16/09

While it all falls under rock's nebulous musical umbrella, post-punk music is not know for really "rocking" in any conventional sense. Or is it? No, it isn't but there are more than a few post-punk, punk, new wave, and alternative tracks that I suspect do, in fact, rock. Tonight I played more than a few of those more than a few.
